Sam, The Highest Jumper of Them All was programmed as part of the Saroyan centennial season at the Finborough Theatre. The production was the first revival since its first performance by Theatre Workshop at the Theatre Royal Stratford East in 1960.

The narrative centres on bank clerk Sam Hark-Harkalark and his fall from grace when he is accused of stealing half a million pounds in banknotes signed ‘Good God’. He loses his job but, undaunted, decides to jump higher than anyone else ever has.

The play was held togther by themes including the corruptive power of money and the search for identity, but was in most part a high-spirited and whimsical tale peopled by a circus of characters including a rock ‘n’ roll singer, a priest, a racing tipster, a stripper, a Russian policeman who periodically stands on his head, and the Ambassador from the Audience to the Play. Julia played the parts of Ann Moon, the ballerina who captures Sam's heart, and The Princess, a rather over-zealous HRH trying her hand as a social-worker.
