In the autumn of 2010 Julia completed a general puppetry course at Little Angel Theatre, exploring the different performing styles used in shadow, glove, rod and table-top puppets. A masterclass with Ronnie Le Drew inspired her to take part in his two-day rod puppetry course where she furthered her awareness and enjoyment of puppets working on creating a relationship with the audience, movement, telling a story and developing character.
Tamasha Actor/Director Laboratory December 2010
This week-long lab was led by Tamasha's Artistic Director Kristine Landon-Smith and was a wonderful opportunity for 11 actors and 5 directors to work together, exploring the actor/director relationship. A lot of the work centred on how play and improvisation can be used to unlock text, with an emphasis on how an actor's cultural background can be a brilliant key to how we create work. You can read more on the Tamasha blog here.
410 [GONE] - HighTide Lab April 2010
Julia took part in HighTide's Genesis Laboratory, developing a new play 410 [Gone] by Frances Ya-Chu Cowhig. Working with the playwright and director Natalie Ibu, the group had the freedom and support to play with the text without the pressure of performance and to run with any questions/ideas they wanted to explore. You can read more about HighTide's R&D studio here.
STORM at Lyric Hammersmith June 2009
